They can be found throughout most of the year. – It doesn’t matter when people plan to take fishing vacations, because king salmon can found throughout most of the year. That being said, there are better times to go king salmon fishing than others. The fall migration is usually the best, and it takes place between August and November, which means that right about now is the perfect time.

You need sturdier equipment than usual to catch them. – You can’t just use any tackle when you go king salmon fishing. If you want to catch these suckers, you’re going to need to use medium to heavy salmon rods, and some sturdy spinning reels spooled with at least a 30-pound monofilament line. Spinning reels are generally better for salmon fishing than bait-casting reels, because you can cast the heavier line more easily.

There are laws surrounding them. – Before you decide to go king salmon fishing, you’d be wise to see what the area’s seasons and limits are like. Chances are you’re going to need to get a fishing license before you go, which you can get at most bait and tackle shops. You can even get one online via the Department of Natural Resources.
