If you’re one of the 43 million or more Americans who will go camping this year, now is the perfect time to begin planning your trip with a comprehensive camping checklist. But there could be items you’re leaving off that list of camping supplies if you’re not thinking about what you’ll be doing during that trip. You probably know, for example, to pack a tent, flashlights, first aid kits, and other essentials. One thing that many people don’t think about, however, is the adventure clothing they need to stay comfortable while in the outdoors.
Approximately 84% of those who go camping will also participate in other activities, such as hiking, boating, fishing, hunting, swimming, and sports. If you plan to take part in any outdoor activities while camping this spring or summer, make sure that you have the right adventure clothing, hiking gear, and other necessities:
- Shirts: T-shirts and tank tops are ideal for summer, and if they’re lightweight they can keep you cool throughout the day. Make sure to avoid dark colored shirts, though, so you don’t absorb too much of the sun’s heat. For nighttime when the weather cools down, bring a fleece or sweatshirt with you.
- Shorts and Pants: Shorts are ideal for camping because they are comfortable, allow you to move freely, and keep you cool. However, you may also want jeans or other long pants to wear if you plan on camping in cooler weather. If you’re going hiking or walking where there could be poison ivy or mosquitoes, covering up your legs may keep you safer.
- Footwear: While flip-flops and other sandals are great for casual summer activities, you may want something sturdier if you plan to go hiking. Make sure that you pack a good pair of hiking boots and some socks to keep your feet comfortable. These boots will increase safety and help you avoid cuts and blisters on your feet.
- Accessories: In addition to adventure clothing, you’ll also need accessories that will protect you from the elements. One thing to be careful of if you’re spending a lot of time outdoors this summer is the sun. Not only should you wear sunscreen, but you may want to cover your head with a hat and wear sunglasses to protect your eyes.
